20828 AMPELIA COTES DE CASTILLON
$17.63 BEST BUY! This red wine is very pleasant with plums, cherries, spices and toasty oak. With some decanting it is lovely now and will age effortlessly for 7 to 10+ years. 14160 BEAUSEJOUR BECOT ST EMILION 93 RP $65.17 This the greatest Beau Sejour-Becot I have ever tasted. The opaque purple 2000 has put on weight during its elevage and, from the bottle, appears to be spectacular. The wood is well-integrated, and the fruit, glycerin, and overall flavor dimensions are noteworthy. The bouquet smells of ink, espresso, jammy blackberries and currants, wet stones, and licorice. Super-pure and fabulously extracted, with high tannin, full body, a thick texture, and awesome richness and length, this blockbuster effort will be at its finest between 2008-2025. RP 17228 BELLE-VUE HAUT MEDOC $21.28 BEST BUY! "The 2000 Belle-Vue is a full-bodied, densely textured, substantial, chunky effort with an opaque purple color, deep, rich fruit, plenty of glycerin, and moderate tannin. It is a hefty, surprisingly intense wine. The 2000 is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and 12% Petit Verdot." RP 20829 BERNADOTTE HAUT MEDOC $20.19 BEST BUY! "This is the first vintage that rachets up the level of quality from this estate owned by the proprietor of Pichon-Lalande. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, it reveals a certain affinity to Pichon-Lalande. Chocolate scents intermixed with sexy, creamy, black currant and underbrush notes jump from the glass. There is good density, an up-front, expansive style, medium body, and sweet tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2014." RP 21178 BOYD CANTENAC MARGAUX 90 WS $31.59 "Love the cedar and blackberry aromas in this. Medium- to full-bodied, with plenty of berry, toasted oak and currant character. A modern wine, showing lots of new wood, but also a serious amount of fruit. Best Boyd in years." (JS) 17103 BRANAIRE DUCRU ST JULIEN 92 WS $59.84 21179 BROWN PESSAC-LEOGNAN $24.83 21183 CAMENSAC HAUT MEDOC 90 WS $24.83 BEST BUY! "This is big and tannic, with loads of concentration. Full-bodied, chewy and impressive. Leave it for a long time. Super price for a Cru Classé." (JS) 21415 CANON LA GAFFELIERE ST EMILION 95 RP $131.67 "This is a triumphant 2000, flamboyant, super-concentrated, yet classic in proportions. Lavish notes of roasted espresso, melted chocolate, creme de cassis, toasty new oak, and Asian spices jump from the glass of this sensationally perfumed, rather ostentatious 2000. It is enormously concentrated and pure, with low acidity and exquisite balance. Remarkably, in spite of its large size, viscosity, and opulence, it is fresh and delineated. Potentially the finest Canon-la-Gaffeliere made to date, this impeccably made wine will drink well between 2006-2022." RP 21074 CLOS DES JACOBINS ST EMILION 750ML $40.57 21414 CLOS DES JACOBINS ST EMILION 375ML $21.11 20830 CLOS L'EGLISE COTES DE CASTILLON 90 RP $31.59 TOP BUY! "The outstanding 2000 Clos l'Eglise boasts a saturated ruby/purple color as well as a sumptuous bouquet of espresso roast intermixed with creme de cassis, blackberries, and licorice. The wine is rich, textured, succulent, and impressively pure and long. (The finish goes on for a good 40+ seconds.) This is serious stuff and a sleeper of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: now-2015." - RP 21180 CLOS RENE POMEROL 90 WS $32.69 "Licorice and berry flavors, with hints of minerals and flowers. Medium-bodied, with lovely tannins and a long, pretty finish. Always a pretty red." (JS) 21416 CORBIN ST EMILION $25.27 BEST BUY! "Typical for this estate, the deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 is a fruit-driven effort offering notes of plums, cherries, saddle leather, tobacco, and earth. It possesses medium body, excellent depth, moderate tannin, and a velvety texture. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012." RP 21139 COUDREAU LALANDE POMEROL $24.75 21177 D'AGASSAC HAUT MEDOC 90 WS $20.28 "Super effort. Complex aromas of milk chocolate, plum and coffee, with hints of game. Full-bodied, soft and round tannins, with a ripe fruit finish. Lovely wine." (JS) 20831 DAME DE MONTROSE ST ESTEPHE $30.52 21181 DAUZAC MARGAUX 91 WS $32.69 "Sleek and powerful. A firm and silky red, with plum and chocolate character. Full-bodied, with compacted fruit and silky tannins. Long and silky. Needs lots of time in the bottle." (JS) 21205 DU TERTRE MARGAUX 91 RP $45.11 "A dense purple color is followed by layers of concentrated blackberry fruit intertwined with damp earth, mushroom, and sweet, toasty barrique smells. With ripe tannin, medium to full body, a layered texture, and a concentrated, impressively endowed finish, this is the finest Du Tertre since their 1979. This is a property on the move ... up!" RP 13291 EPICUREA CH MARTINAT COTES DE BOURG $17.75 14400 FERRAND LARTIGUE ST EMILION 90-92 RP $38.57 20832 FOMBRAUGE ST EMILION 90-92 RP $30.59 21417 FONPLEGADE ST EMILION $35.80 TOP BUY! "The 2000 is the finest Fonplegade in nearly two decades. Thankfully, there are 4,000 cases of this structured, deep, concentrated wine, with high levels of tannin, but equally impressive levels of extract and richness. Medium to full-bodied, with plum, black currant, and cherry fruit intermixed with mineral and earth, this pure, rich St.-Emilion is an admirable achievement. It is a blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon." RP 20833 GISCOURS MARGAUX 93 WS $53.76 17022 GLORIA ST JULIEN 90 WS $35.91 TOP BUY! "Lovely berry and tobacco and mineral character. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a silky finish." "Best after 2007. 20,000 cases made." - James Suckling 17022 GRAND CORBIN DESPAGNE ST EMILION 90 RP $33.92 TOP BUY! "This has been a property to watch since the late nineties. All of the recent vintages have represented a relatively virile, muscular, tannic style of St.-Emilion. The black/purple-colored 2000 is a sleeper of the vintage. Revealing aromas of plum, wood smoke, iron, blackberries, licorice, underbrush, and cassis, this full-bodied, layered, powerful, muscular St.-Emilion has some tannin to shed, but its finish reveals considerable persistence. It is a strong, virile, broodingly impressive effort." RP 17023 GREE LAROQUE BORDEAUX SUPERIEUR $17.62 BEST BUY! 20834 GRUAUD LAROSE ST JULIEN 95 WS $106.42 20835 HAUT BAGES LIBERAL PAUILLAC 92 WS $41.56 21182 HAUT BATAILLEY PAUILLAC 92 WS $44.07 "Attractive chocolate, berry and currant aromas follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with medium fine tannins and a pretty berry, chocolate aftertaste. Seriously good value. Best wine from this estate in decades." (JS) 13417 HAUT BEAUSEJOUR ST ESTEPHE $20.55 16948 HAUT CHAIGNEAU LALANDE POMEROL $21.17 21206 JONQUEYRES BORDEAUX SUPERIOR $10.97 BEST BUY! From the owners of Clinet in Pomerol comes a well crafted wine at a great price. 21184 KIRWAN MARGAUX 92 WS $55.31 "A very reserved wine at this stage, but still shows attractive plum and berry character, with hints of mineral. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and very refined tannins. Lasts a long time on the finish. Very, very silky." (JS) 20836 LAFON ROCHET ST ESTEPHE 91 WS, 90-92 RP $41.23 21048 LA CROIX DE BEAUCAILLOU ST JULIEN $31.92 "There are 4,000-5,000 cases of Ducru's high quality La Croix de Beaucaillou, which generally contains more Merlot than the grand vin. The 2000 reveals that component in its succulence and flesh. It should age well for 10-12 years. Readers should seek this one out." RP Wine of the week - Los Angeles Times. 21013 LA GARENNE PUDERAN BORDEAUX $8.91 BEST BUY! Excellent wine for summer BBQ's at an affordable price! Made by the folks at La Violette in Pomerol. 20837 LAGRANGE ST JULIEN 93 WS $52.67 17031 LASCOMBES MARGAUX 90 RP $40.13 "The first superb Lascombes in nearly 35 years, this generous, deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 does not possess the complexity or finesse of the 2001, but offers plenty of perfumed, smoky licorice, black currant, and cherry fruit in a medium-bodied, long, concentrated style with no hard edges. While it possesses a more muscular, tannic character than the 2001, it is clearly the finest wine made at this estate since their classic 1966 and 1970." RP 21186 LATOUR MARTILLAC PESSAC LEOGNAN 92 WS $30.48 "Very, very impressive for this estate. Blackberry and cigar tobacco, with hints of toasted oak. Full-bodied, with loads of velvety tannins and a long finish." (JS) 20838 LOUSTEAUNEUF MEDOC $13.74 BEST BUY! Excellent value from this Cru Bourgeois property in Medoc. The wine sports black cherries, plums, toasty oak, spices, and a mild earthy-mineral component that is nicely supported by ripe tannins. 21187 MALARTIC LAGRAVIERE PESSAC LEOGNAN 92 WS $39.91 "Really well-done. Best I have had from here. Extremely refined and well-crafted, with delicate spice, fresh meat and berry character. Full-bodied, with super-well-integrated tannins." (JS) 20557 MANGOT ST EMILION $30.59 21418 MANIEU FRONSAC $18.39 21188 MARQUIS D'ALESME BECKER MARGAUX 90 WS $23.81 "Another forgotten Cru Classé that delivers. Aromatic red, with licorice, violet and berry character. Medium-bodied, with medium tannins and a caressing finish. Lovely." (JS) 13844 MARQUIS DE TERME MARGAUX 92 WS $28.39 19740 MAYNE VIEIL CUVEE ALIENOR FRONSAC $13.99 BEST BUY! A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc towers over it’s peers. We are hard pressed to find a great Merlot from anywhere at this price remotely near the quality level. This property has been producing fine wine since the 1500’s. 17112 MONTROSE ST ESTEPHE 96 RP $106.40 19742 PETIT FOMBRAUGE ST EMILION $21.29 17146 PICHON BARON 96 RP $116.38 20842 ROLLAN DE BY MEDOC $19.49 BEST BUY! "Very attractive aromas of crushed berries, chocolate and light vanilla. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a long, caressing finish. A beauty. Best after 2005. 15,500 cases made." WS 21190 SAINT PIERRE ST JULIEN 90 WS $36.14 "Silky and decadent, with berry, tobacco, chocolate and meat character. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a caressing finish." (JS) 16956 SIRAN MARGAUX 92 WS $33.92 A lovely wine from this château. Aromas of crushed blackberries and raspberries. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a long refreshing finish. Very racy. (JS) 19739 SENEJAC HAUT-MEDOC $19.97 17218 SMITH HAUT LAFITTE PESSAC LEOGNAN 94 RP $67.83 17290 TALBOT ST JULIEN 93 WS $55.86 Most of the Bordeaux 2000 wines listed here are in stock at time of publishing but are rapidly selling out. New offerings are arriving daily so please call us for current availability at (800) 339-0609. Bordeaux Wines are released in stages. The first and "cheapest" offering is on the futures market. The second release is generally quite a bit pricier, especially in fabulous vintages such as 2000. Subsequent releases tend to be even more expensive, especially when demand is higher than supply. The Chateaux have already raised their prices for the next offering and the Euro is extremely strong against the dollar right now. If you love Bordeaux - now is the time to purchase, especially if you did not secure futures pricing. With history being an indication, these wines should continue to increase in value with time.
